One crutch

I had the urge to shoot and the conditions were decent last night so I used one hand to grab a lawn chair and tripod and a crutch in the other. I heard dogs barking in the distance and it was the first time I’ve ever been shook by those sounds. Being defenseless in the [...]
Inception

Give Leo and Christopher Nolan every award out there, it was perfect. I could have paid $50 and still have been ecstatic once it ended.
Seeing Eye

I changed my mind on the new STP record, its pretty good. There’s a couple songs that were ruining it for me but Dean Deleo’s guitar work is head and shoulders above anyone in rock and roll. Add in a stellar rhythm section fronted by a lunatic singer and you have one of the best [...]
Vince

This is Vince, he’s the greatest person I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. We’ve known each other since we were 13 and lifting weights trying to combat our Asian genes that restricted us to physiques that consisted of skin and bones. Right about now he’s getting on a plane to Dubai and then he’ll [...]
12 String

Whenever I go to Atomic its usually to pick up a pedal, so I never stray to the back. A couple weeks ago I was killing time while I got my oil changed and wandered across the street. I saw this guitar and convinced myself that I needed it for an acoustic EP that I [...]
6-14-10

I played my nephew Miles Davis, Birth of Cool this morning and this afternoon he plucked his first notes on guitar. Coincidence? I doubt it.
Portfolio 2
My new body of work that focuses on textures and symmetry in nature.
If Only

Is the name of my next album, I started demoing it today and realized how much work went into the last 6 months. The last album was the hardest thing task I’ve ever set out to do and in some ways this one looks to be 10x harder. I was going to leave it alone [...]
Alberta Cross+BRMC

I got to see these two fine bands the other night courtesy of Austin, my friend who also happens to have the deepest pocket and fiercest beard since John Henry Bonham. I love everything about Albert Cross and I’m partial because I love Austin’s playing and I love their work ethic. They opened for Oasis [...]
4-1-10

I think I wrote something about me not taking any good shots for a month or so, guess I was wrong. My photography is getting a shot in the arm since I’m not allowed to play drums for another 2 months.
3-29-10

I went to the Jasper Johns exhibit at the National Gallery today; primarily because I was curious about the work of a man who’s paintings have sold for the prices of 20 million and 80 million dollars. For a second I thought, maybe I picked the wrong mediums of art to dabble in. The longer [...]
Death Valley

I worked on this while listening to On’s album. I’ve listened to that album a couple thousand times over the years and it sounds new to me every time I listen to it. Ken Andrews is so ridiculously overrated as an engineer and producer that its a shame. I would love to have him mix [...]
Fall
I uploaded a gallery of Fall shots to my website. I seemed to be drawn to the black and white images more than the color ones. View Gallery
Film

I’m making the conversion to shooting all my nature work with film from now on. Aside from time lapse, night exposures and family stuff I don’t see the convenience in using digital. The convenience doesn’t outweigh how aesthetically pleasing film is. I doubt I’ll look back in 20 years and say I wish I shot [...]
2009

The year it all came together. This makes 2010 the year that it takes off. On tap for 2010: Release a video (of time lapse footage)for a song off The Long Way Home. Release the first Absent Stars album and a bunch of live shows. edit-there’s a band in Chicago called Absentstar. This sucks, their [...]

These shots remind me of White Sands, I was thinking in that mode before I pressed the shutter. The faint hints of red and blue in the sunset caste the snow in the same light as sand. Laytonsville gives me the same feeling as White Sands, in the middle of nowhere with no one around.
First Snow

I think my camera is on its last legs, it turns off after I click the shutter. The only way to take another shot is to take out the battery, not exactly ideal circumstances while wearing gloves and shooting while its snowing. Hopefully its covered since I got it serviced by Canon in August.
