Something in the new National Geographic made me think of the drive on the way to Moab. I think this shot is portfolio worthy.

I’m putting together a new collection of work that’s focused on landscapes shot in film. They won’t be similar to my previous work like The Long Way Home which was conceptualized and had a broad selection of shots. These shots will be focused on the moment, time,place and the vagueness of it all. Nearly every shot was taken two summers ago as I barreled across the Midwest to get to California. I figured if I can’t create any new work that stimulates my interest than I should find that intangible missing element in my previous work. If I take away anything from this collection, its to never stop shooting film.

August is going to be one of the greatest months of my life, just thinking about it makes me want to pass on sleep for the next week. Soon I’ll have my (mental and physical) health back, I got a nice scholarship to Grad school and Ian is coming to town in a couple weeks. I’m putting out a single this weekend, Volume 4 is in the works and Live in the Living Room is just waiting for the artwork to be completed. Add in the freedom to work out, record a new album, my brother getting married and life is bursting at the seams with happiness and unbridled excitement. Chris is coming into town for a day so we get to rock some Spacecreep; that could be a session for the ages, we have a musical connection that is truly a gift from the musical gods.

I hardly think its a coincidence that subtracting certain people from my life lead to this process going smooth. Last summer Demetri gave me the harshest tongue lashing I have ever received, it was also one I needed and deserved. It was so bad nearly everyone in the restaurant was bewildered by our interaction. “Why is that guy yelling at his friend with the crutches?” I had made terrible decisions on who to let in and depend on and he was fed up with it. After he dropped me off that afternoon I reassessed everything wondering how I got to such a low place. Thankfully for myself and everyone around me I tried to correct the issues and focus all my energy on healing. There was no miraculous turn around but learning from those mistakes prepared me for this past month.

Declan could tell what’s ahead so he raised his fist in celebration. Its been a while since I could hold him and carry him around, playtime is going to be a blast this weekend.

I recently consolidated alot of my work taking it offline. Some of that work is very precious to me as well as being some of my favorite work, it would be a shame for them to sit on my hard drives. I created a stock gallery with separate (much lower) price points, I will be placing my future blog pics in this gallery.

One crutch

I had the urge to shoot and the conditions were decent last night so I used one hand to grab a lawn chair and tripod and a crutch in the other. I heard dogs barking in the distance and it was the first time I’ve ever been shook by those sounds. Being defenseless in the middle of nowhere isn’t the best feeling in the world; creating this on the other hand…

and I’m back on my feet. I feel a record coming on, I’m beginning to like the EP alot more than the complete album. An album seems like work and an EP seems like fun…kind of like writing one chapter rather than an entire book.

I changed my mind on the new STP record, its pretty good. There’s a couple songs that were ruining it for me but Dean Deleo’s guitar work is head and shoulders above anyone in rock and roll. Add in a stellar rhythm section fronted by a lunatic singer and you have one of the best rock n roll bands ever.

Whenever I go to Atomic its usually to pick up a pedal, so I never stray to the back. A couple weeks ago I was killing time while I got my oil changed and wandered across the street. I saw this guitar and convinced myself that I needed it for an acoustic EP that I wanted to record. Gear junkies can always find a way to validate their purchases. I recorded 5 songs off my last record, no overdubs, just my voice and guitar. My singing sounds alot better when its not fighting for space with drums and 14 guitars.
